The 178-acre ALMONO site is unique as its prominent riverfront location and plateau terrain offers an extraordinary opportunity to become a premier innovation hub to feature unparalleled residential neighborhoods and public open spaces in Pittsburgh. The ALMONO name is derived from the three Pittsburgh rivers - the Allegheny, Monongahela, and the Ohio, reflecting the importance of the site’s waterfront location, which will re-open the mileand- a-half of shoreline to the surrounding community.

The ALMONO Design and Development Implementation Plan has been designed to integrate with the broader Hazelwood neighborhood, including continuing the existing street grid and maximizing street and open space connections. The site’s location also posseses advantageous links to regional economic cores, educational centers and transit corridors, which will incite a new level of growth, renewal and progress to greater Pittsburgh.

The urban form of the ALMONO development responds to the underlying principles of a transit oriented, walkable and socially engaging community. The plan is comprised of unique districts. Each of these districts is made up of a series of specific urban places, each with a unique identity, creating differentiation and variety in both the built form and the social activities that take place across the site. Together these urban places will come to define the physical and social identity of the project.

In an effort to increase social activity and a sense of liveliness in the public realm, great care has been taken to organize each of these districts around services, amenities and gathering places that support an urban, pedestrian focused lifestyle.
